Netflix’s Unorthodox tells the harrowing story of the woman that is nineteen-year-old Esty Shapiro, whom flees her life in Williamsburg, nyc – together with Hasidic Jewish community for which she was raised in.
According to Deborah Feldman’s 2012 memoir, Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection Of My Hasidic Roots, the four-part drama is a going story of exactly how Esty (played by Shira Haas) escapes from her spouse and family members to Berlin, Germany, into the hopes of starting a life that is fresh.
